Nagole: Recently the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) east zone introduced biometric attendance monitoring for the workers and drivers across GHMC offices on a pilot basis.

However, the drivers of Fathullaguda animal shelter is finding it difficult as they have to travel 16 km every day for punching biometrics apart from their daily driving duty.

As per their duty timings, the drivers have to punch in at sharp 6 am and punch out around 2 pm. The biometric machine has been installed in the Kapra GHMC office, whereas the animal shelter is in Nagole which is at a 16 km distance and takes 42 mins on an average traffic day.

First thing in the morning, the drivers go all the way till Kapra GHMC office to punch in biometric to mark attendance, only then they report on duty at the shelter else they will be marked absent.

Dr Sukhnandan Reddy, Deputy Director Fathullaguda Animal shelter. said, "We have sent a written representation to the Zonal office for installing biometric machine at an office near to the shelter to make things easier for drivers and save unnecessary travel time. It was supposed to be installed by Monday but due to some technical error, it has been delayed it will be rectified soon,"he added.

Expressing his disappointment over the apathy, F Muqeem, a driver shares, "The initiative is good, but a lot of time is spent on traveling which is exhausting. I come all the way from Falaknuma which is 18 km away and takes around one hour to reach the shelter."
