The four-day Jatara Utsav of village deities is being celebrated on a grand scale in Chitkul village of Patancheru mandal.

Patancheru: The four-day Jatara Utsav of village deities is being celebrated on a grand scale in Chitkul village of Patancheru mandal. The utsav, which began on Tuesday, will conclude on July 26. On the first day, Kattamaisamma, on the second Durgamma,on the third Pochamma are to be offered special poojas, and on the fourth day 'patha jatara' is to be organised.

On Tuesday, after a special pooja was offered to deity Kattamaisamma, Sarpanch Neelam Madhu organised 'Thottela Palaharam Bandi' procession which passed through the main thoroughfares of the village. 'Kolatam,' 'Potharajula vinyasalu' and other cultural programmes were conducted during the day. A festive atmosphere prevailed in the village.

Speaking during the festivities, the sarpanch stated that basic facilities were provided in the panchayat to mark the jatara. He said during the special pooja he had worshipped the deity for bountiful rains and welfare of the people. Among the participants in the special pooja were Congress leaders Shankar Yadav, Katta Srinivas Goud, Sapana Dev, Godavari, Swathi, Radhakrishna.
