Hyderabad: GHMC officials are gearing up to conduct special drives for removal of single use plastic on national highways, parks, colonies and public places across the city from October 2.

They decided to increase the effectiveness of the ban on single use plastic at historic places like Charminar, Golkonda, Quli-Qutub-Shah tombs, Birla Mandir, Mecca Masjid, Salarjung Museum, Shilparamam and Tank Bund.

Meanwhile, GHMC Commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar has issued a circular to zonal and deputy commissioners to conduct fogging in colonies and parks with the help of welfare associations and morning walkers, in compliance with the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Swachh Bharat Mission.

He stated that welfare associations need to bring about awareness in residents not to use plastic with less than 50 microns thickness. In case of any petty vendors using plastic, they will be fined severely. Plastic which is collected during fogging will be given to cement companies, he added.
