GHMC intensifies special drive against dengue
Following reporting of several dengue cases, the GHMC Charminar Zone hit top gear over generating amongst the general population, particularly slum dwellers, to avert any possibility of breeding of mosquito (Aedes Aegypti) and its larvae, in stagnant waters in their surroundings. Senior officials visited residential areas prone to risk of dengue along with GHMC teams that spray insecticide.

Deputy Zonal Commissioners of various Circles remained on field for the past few days generating awareness amongst members of Slum Level Federations (SLF), while others reached out to the devout present at different Ganesh mandapas in this endeavour.
Deputy Commissioner (Santoshnagar) K Alivelu Mangathayaru was seen conducting awareness programmes about Dengue at an SLF meeting in different areas under Santoshnagar Circle, along with Deputy Project Officer and team of HMWSSB. On Tuesday, she along with Entomology Team conducted awareness on Dengue fever at a Ganesh Mandal in Vishnunagar at IS Sadan under Santoshnagar Circle.
Deputy Commissioner (Falaknuma) B Suman Rao not only conducted meetings with SLF groups on viral and dengue fevers, but also visited the house of a patient to check larvae breeding in Vattepalli, along with Deputy Project Officer and other GHMC staff. Later, he also visited the local Basit Dawakhana to enquire about the cases related to the different fevers. On Tuesday, he also supervised the teams spraying insecticide at Chirag Ali nagar in Kishanbagh.
Deputy Commissioner (Charminar) S N Surya Kumar also conducted meeting with SLFs, where members of Self Help Groups also took part. At Kalapathar in Shalibanda Division, he explained and informed the participants regarding preventive measures to be taken up, pertaining to dengue, malaria, along with other GHMC staff.
Zonal Commissioner B Srinivas Reddy appealed to residents to remove all sources of stagnant water on their premises to avoid any possibility of mosquito breeding. "Dengue mosquito bites during the day and it can be identified owing to the distinct physical feature, as it has black and white stripes on its body and legs," he added.
