Golconda: Locals residing on the Hyderabad golf club to Golconda police station stretch are furious these days as the stretch is being used as a dump yard for throwing garbage.
The stretch has become a dumping ground where stray dogs and rodents are seen wandering for food. The locals allege the civic officials have not acted on their pleas to intervene in this matter, thereby making the area prone to serious health issues. Mosquito menace has also been rampant in the area. Besides, light-weight garbage is floating and falling on passers-by, they bemoaned.
"We have got no response till now. We have tried contacting them many times but all in vain. The dump yard has become a mosquito breeding ground and we have been facing a lot of mosquitoes for the past few weeks. The stretch is very long and you can't see a clean patch on the stretch where there is no garbage dumped. We request the GHMC to intervene in this issue and clean the stretch as it is a very severe health issue," said Ansar Sayed, a local resident.
"Swarms of mosquitoes are breeding in this stagnant lake which is adding to the travails of citizens, what with garbage also emitting stink all around. Besides, people have started even dumping carcasses of animals there. The whole area reeks of discarded tires, clogged drainage," said another resident.
