Nampally: While describing Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, as a greatest visionary and tallest leader revered by not only Muslims but across different communities for his idea of India, Home Minister, Mohammad Mahmood Ali held that had if his aspirations would have materialised then India would have been a gigantic nation and formidable power, with Pakistan and Bangladesh included in it.

Home Minister who inaugurated the photo exhibition on life of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi as part of celebrations of 150th birth anniversary at Abul Kalam Azad Oriental Research Institute in Nampally, recalled how Azad along with Gandhi and other national leaders took part in various struggles in achieving the Independence. He lauded the efforts of the Executive & Academic Board of the Institute for coming up with the exhibition of 200 photographs of Gandhi highlighting his life starting from his childhood days.

Later, reviewing the functioning of the Institute he promised to support it by taking up the issue with concerned departments for streamlining the financial support from government. While emphasising the importance of the Institute in the city which has already published close to 100 books, he also promised to work out on modalities, if MLC funds can be utilised in this endeavour.

For upgrading the institute with modern standards, Home Minister assured to push for proposal of providing at least one acre of land to the institute whose main focus area remains research. Tayyaba Affindi, Member, Central Haj Committee was the guest of honour. Prof Ashraf Rafi, Chairperson of Institute, Prof S A Shukoor, Director Academic Board and Ahmed Ali, honourary director and others were present on the occasion. According to organisers, the exhibition will continue till November 18.
