Hyderabad : The State BJP leaders pooh-poohed the statements of Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao who said that the voters of Warangal were intelligent than their Hyderabad counterparts.

The Minister has reportedly made the comments expressing confidence that the voters of Warangal Municipal Corporation would not go the way the voters of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and the ruling TRS would win the Warangal Municipal Corporation elections.

It can be recalled that the voters of GHMC have dashed the hopes of the ruling TRS as well as the BJP by giving no clear majority to either of the parties to occupy the mayor seat on their party's strength.

Against this backdrop, the Panchayat Raj Minister has reportedly stated that the Warangal voters were smarter than the GHMC voters, and they wouldn't choose the same course in the ensuing elections like that of GHMC voters.

However, BJP State general secretary G Premender Reddy said, "We are going to people appealing to give us clear majority and the mayor post. We will also nail the ruling TRS in our election campaign exposing its wrongdoings," he said.

Dismissing the statements of Dayakar Rao, he said that what was in store for the TRS was going to be more damaging than the one it had faced in the GHMC elections. Reason being, "The TRS has failed in delivering on its electoral promises like providing Rs 300 crore annually to the Warangal city besides other promises. Further, it did not allow the development to take place in Warangal city."

"For example, the Centre has sanctioned the projects under the Smart City, Amrut Scheme as well as the Heritage City. Only a very few cities in the country have got all three. However, the projects could not be taken up as the State government failed to release its share of funds. What's more shocking is that it has diverted the funds sanctioned by the Centre to the Warangal city to other projects," he added.

Former MP and BJP leader Vivek Venkataswamy said, "People of Warangal are all set to teach a lesson to the TRS and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in the ensuing civic body elections."
