Hyderabad: The state BJP feels that it will be emerging as the single largest party in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections held on December 1. Early on, the saffron party hoped to make it win the Mayor's post capturing majority of the municipal divisions in the GHMC.

But, now a reality check by the party points out that the lotus party is expecting to get about 50 divisions in the GHMC elections. Speaking to The Hans India, a senior party leader said that leaving aside the ex-officio votes that decide who will be the mayor, "the party sees it will be a fractured verdict in 150 municipal divisions.

And, the TRS would not be in position to capture an absolute majority among the majority division on its own. And, the BJP if not majority, will be able to get about 50 out of the 150 divisions," is the party's assessment, he added.

However, given the low voter turnout, a senior party leader overseeing the party electioneering said, "the TRS misuse of official machinery and spending crores of sums to lure the voters," might affect the winning prospects of the BJP candidates in the municipal divisions within the city.

However, "except two or three divisions that might go to Congress, the BJP will win majority of municipal divisions in the Malkajgiri and its adjacent divisions," he said.

Also, the saffron party is hoping to capture about 75 per cent of the municipal divisions in the Patancheru.

"BJP is all set to capture the majority of municipal divisions in the periphery areas of GHMC, like Patancheru, Serilingampally, Malkajgiri, and others falling under the Ranga Reddy," he added. When asked the party election committee co-convener Vivek Venkataswamy said that the GHMC results were going to be a lesson to the ruling TRS party. People of the city would defeat the TRS' unilateral and dictatorial governance.

The GHMC results would be a step closer for the party to chalk out its strategy ahead to take on the TRS and MIM combine. The results would give an idea for the party to assess its own strength to prepare for the 2023 elections, said a former BJP MLA.
