Hyderabad: Under the Jeevandan organ donation project, the family members of a 44-year-old homemaker, P Pavani, a resident of Bolarum, Secunderabad, who was declared brain dead by doctors, donated their organs.

Pavani had a sudden fall in her house on December 4, and was taken to a local hospital and later transferred for treatment to Care Hospitals, Banjara Hills.

After a fortnight of intensive care therapy, the woman's health did not improve and she was pronounced brain dead by doctors on December 20. IC bleeding, intracerebral haemorrhage, caused by inner bleeding inside the brain tissue and a recognised life-threatening form of stroke, was the cause of death, doctors said.

The family members of the deceased were informed by the hospital staff and Jeevandan grief officials and they immediately decided to donate organs.

Her husband, P.Kumara Swamy, and his family members gave her permission to donate her organs. Two kidneys, liver and two corneas were recovered by the surgeons and sent them to other transplant facilities in Hyderabad, based on Jeevandan's guidelines.
