Hyderabad: Mixed reactions on corporator's work in Malkajgiri (140-division)

One of the crowded places in this part of city, Malkajgiri (140-division) which has Old Mahankali temple generally remains bustling with devotees during any day of the year. With a total of 41,585 voters, the division is teeming with problems in several areas such as damaged roads and improper garbage collection.

Motorists plying on roads and bylanes find it difficult due to the bad condition of roads, which were further damaged following heavy rains in October.

The major issues for the residents of Malkajgiri are that roads remain in poor condition and sewerage systems are in worst condition. And when it rains, the sewage overflows and creates problems for the commuters. "Internal roads are not at all in good condition here. Contractors will dig the roads for some work, but after finishing the works they will leave roads without restoring, which creates problems for commuters" said R Rahul, a shopkeeper.

K Ramesh, a resident of Malkajgiri, said that even the sewerage system has failed to cope with the needs of an ever increasing population. These need to be modified at the earliest. "When it rains, the drains overflow and the drain water stagnates on the roads. Even the sanitation works have failed to maintain the quality and appear incomplete.

Owing to stagnant water in nearby spots, mosquito menace remains one of the important concerns of the residents. Add to these, electric wires remain dangerously hanging overhead posing risk to the passersby. We have complained several times to the authorities concerned, but no one took action till date."

However opinions of others were different and they were satisfied with the works of the current representative. Serving the division since 2016 corporator, N Jagadeeshwar Goud (TRS) has impressed people with his work, even though there are few pending works that need to be accomplished, say a few locals.

"The roads and sewerage system are far better now after the new Corporator came. There are several developments which took place in the area during Jagadeeshwar Goud's term since 2016. Even the roads are getting repaired and the present Corporator is developing the division," opined V Yashwanth, a resident of Malkajgiri.
