Hyderabad: Sunnam Cheruvu to get a makeover says Sabiha Begum
The Corporator-elect, who won for second time in the recent GHMC elections, plans to transform the water body bund into a mini Tankbund. She has set this as top priority in her latest stint
Sabiha Begum (TRS) won from Allapur (ward 116) for the second time, with 18,648 votes against her nearest rival Puligolla Srilakshmi, who received 8,338 votes.
Emphasising on the action plan, she said whatever development works not implemented in the last term would be taken up. "The major projects that I wanted to take up include development of Sunnam Cheruvu into a mini-Tank Bund. I would like to take up works at Sunnam Cheruvu Nala and Rama Rao Nala. I also plan to develop a walking track at Maisamma Cheruvu, road widening works at Allapur."
Highlighting all development activities of the last term, Sabiha Begum said "Almost all colony internal roads have been re-laid. We have come up with new water pipelines in areas where there was no such amenity. Community halls were built. We also came up with two Basthi Dawakhanas. Fencing works were completed to secure Sunnam Cheruvu and Maisamma Cheruvu. Water reservoirs were taken up by spending Rs 5.5 crore.
"In this term, my first priority would be developing Sunnam Cheruvu into a mini-tank bund with facilities like walking track, planting trees in the surroundings of the lake and constructing a sewage treatment plant," she stated.
Almost 90 per cent of the ward comprises slums. It was neglected for the past several years.
"It being located between the Jubilee Hills and Kukatpally constituencies, with active support from the State government, we could develop the division, providing amenities like roads, nala cleaning, water pipeline lines and improved standard of living. The government schools in were provided with all basic civic amenities, including benches and washrooms," Sabiha Begum added.
