Chikkadpally: Alongside Friendship Day celebrations hitting a feverish pitch in the city on Sunday, music groups celebrated the 90th birth anniversary of iconic playback singer Kishore Kumar in various parts of the city. A programme at Tyagaraja Gana Sabha at Chikkadpally reverberated with songs sung by Kishore Kumar. It was attended by dedicated fans of the singer.
At Ameerpet, Nirmal Music Creations under the auspices of Horizon Mindspace Entertainments came up with a live orchestra programme – Gaata Rahe Mera Dil – in which vintage Kishore Kumar hits were relived by a bunch of young and middle-aged singers with good crowd support. There was instrumental music to go along with the vocal part, with a special flute recital which regaled the audience.
Carrying on with its tradition of its nostalgic tribute to the veteran crooner, Dakshin Dhwani, (which started its musical journey with the 29th death anniversary of Kishore Kumar in October 2016) conducted its sixth serial event 'Koi Hota Jisko Apna" at Nritya Forum for Performing Arts, Banjara Hills. Over a dozen singers, including a harmonica performance were the highlights of the three-hour long event, in which young IT and corporate professionals vied with older singers to belt out soulful and evergreen hits of Kishore Kumar.
Having had a four-decade long career in the Hindi film industry, Kishore Kumar is still a rage among the old and new fans as many of his hits have been re-mixed and revised for the new target audiences over the years. His booming baritone and appeal was clearly undiminished among the city residents who were seen with their family members at all the venues.
