Nampally: Pushing the longstanding demand of Metro Rail in Old City, the All India Majlis Inquilab-e-Millat (AIMIM) has urged the government to take immediate measures to ensure the dream of old city people come true of having a sophisticated transport system on par with new city.

During a meeting held at the party office in Old City, Moulana Syed Taraq Quadri, the president of AIMIM, pointed out that though the government made several promises in the past, besides KTR's recent assurance on the floor, no concrete measures had been taken up yet to fulfill the same.

"TRS government, which in the past played with the sentiments of the people of Old City, is now playing the same game from the assembly floor by making tall promises one after another, without taking steps to fulfil any of them," he said.

"Government has failed to render justice with the people of Old City in providing them due share in development and its preferential treatment to the other half of the city is a clear evident," said party vice-resident Syed Hamed Hussain Shuttari.

Old city is home to over 82 lakh population with different faith and religion. They constitute a paramount percentage of votes that allow government to rule over the GHMC there by the cosmopolitan city of Hyderabad.

What prevents the government from providing the Metr Rail to the Old City people, when it has already provided the same facility to people in other parts of city," wondered general secretary Abdul Quddus Ghori.

Asserting that AIMIM will soon start a campaign highlighting the government's prejudiced attitude towards the people of Old City, a senior party leader M A Qavi Abbasi urged the government to fulfill the long-standing demand of Metro Rail to the earliest in the larger interests of Old City people. "Government should shun the partisan attitude on geographic lines and treat people of all regions equally," he said.
