Hyderabad: The High Court bench comprising of Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice Bollam Vijaysen Reddy on Wednesday heard a plea filed by T Dhangopal Rao challenging the recent nominations of three MLCs, Goreti Venkanna, Baswaraj Saraiah and Boggarapu Dayanand Gupta under Governor Quota. The High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the State government and three nominated MLCs directing them to file the counter-affidavits within four weeks. The Chief Justice bench directed the Advocate General Banda Shivananda Prasad to accept the notices.

Petitioner Dhangopal challenged that as per the Telangana Cabinet's decision, the three MLCs have been nominated without following the law laid down by the Allahabad High Court in the matter of nominations of MLCs in Governor Quota.

Further, the petitioner submitted that according to Article 171 (3) (e), 5 of the Constitution, the Governor shall, at her discretion, appoint 1/6 of the members of the State Legislative Council. However, these members must be proficient in various fields. The High Court adjourned the matter for four weeks.
