The Osmania University is one of the five universities in the country selected under the ‘Digital India’ Project by the Union Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology.

Hyderabad: The Osmania University is one of the five universities in the country selected under the 'Digital India' Project by the Union Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology. Accordingly, the University is benefitted with creation of ICT infrastructure worth of Rs 15 crore for Wi-Fi enabled services with 1379 hotspots for the entire campus includes administrative, academic and amenities areas covering 113 buildings.

This facility is going to benefit the more than 12,000 students, research scholars, faculty members and staff of University campus and helps them to access the e-books, online libraries and journals, Open Education Resources and Study Material available globally.

This will result in enriching the academic environment under 'Connectivity Anywhere' in Universities as a part of 'Digital India' mainstream requirement for higher studies.On the occasion of fourth anniversary celebrations of 'Digital India' Program, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minster for Electronics & Information Technology and Law Affairs, formally launched the Wi-Fi services at Osmania University, Hyderabad along with North Eastern Hill University, Shillong on Monday.

This is one of the programs of the 'Digital India' initiative for transforming India into digitally empowered society by ensuring digital, access, digital services, digital communication and bridging the digital divide through effective utilization ICT facilities through Hi - Speed Broad Band enabled Digital Services.

Vice-chancellor Prof S. Ramachandram and Nodal Officer of the Wi-Fi enabled Project, Osmania University thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, for selecting to sponsor the creation of Wi-Fi enabled infrastructure and launching of its services in Osmania University.
