Masab Tank: BC leaders demanded that the state government build more college and hostel buildings instead of wasting public money on new Assembly and Secretariat buildings. Several BC students and BC leaders laid siege to BC Welfare Bhavan here on Thursday, demanding independent buildings for BC schools and colleges as well as hostels with better facilities.

BC leader Gujja Krishna said that only 4,000 students get seats in 36 BC colleges while there are about 6 lakh BC students studying in 2,000 private colleges. He demanded that the government build 100 additional hostels for BCs to give sadmission to at least 10,000 BC students.

He criticised the state government for demolishing the existing buildings and constructing new buildings for assembly and secretariat. Most of the BC hostels do not have basic amenities such as drinking water, toilets and dining halls, he lamented. Among those who participated in the protest were Neela Venkatesh, Ramakrishna Nandu, Gopal and others.
