A total of 28 students received their diplomas at the convocation ceremony of PGDRDM (PG Diploma in Rural Development Management) (Batch-16) at National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (NIRD & PR) on Friday.

Rajendranagar: A total of 28 students received their diplomas at the convocation ceremony of PGDRDM (PG Diploma in Rural Development Management) (Batch-16) at National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (NIRD & PR) on Friday.

Gold medal was awarded to Amartya Krishna Roy as the best performer. The Silver, Bronze and DG's Special medals were awarded to second and third best performers, Ulligadda Veeresham, Sahara Bisoyee and Penioni Kuinikoro respectively.

Neela Gangadhran, former Chief Secretary, Government of Kerala, graced the occasion as the chief guest and awarded the diplomas and medals. Speaking on the occasion, she emphasised on creation of a pool of rural development professionals who can genuinely help uplift the rural poor and activate the rural development initiative of the country.

Dr WR Reddy, Director-General, NIRD & PR, presided over the function. He explained about the contribution of NIRD&PR to the society as a whole and particularly to the rural people of India. More than 730 rural development professionals passed out from NIRD&PR and were contributing professionally manage the rural development programmes in the country, including state rural livelihood missions, MGNREGS etc. Students of the institute actually work at the grassroots level including remote villages.

Radhika Rastogi, Deputy Director General of the institute, spoke of the students' performance and their role in upliftment of the rural society. Giving her advice to the graduates, she called upon them to develop passion to become change managers.

The Batch-16 campus placement was held from June 17 to 22, 2019. Reputed organisations participated in the campus placements and offered employment to a good number of students. About 90 per cent of the students were already placed.
