Rajendranagar : The Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) celebrated the Agricultural Education Day at the premises of College of Agriculture here on Tuesday.

Dr V Praveen Rao, the Vice-Chancellor of PJTSAU, along with Dr S Sudheer Kumar, Registrar, inaugurated the exhibition which was organised as part of the Education Day for showcasing prospects in agricultural sector, teaching, research and extension activities of PJTSAU.

While interacting with students on the occasion, Dr Praveen Rao informed them about the importance of Agricultural Education Day. He said that the main objective behind organising the Day was to educate school students and encourage them to choose agriculture as a profession by showing the research and teaching and extension activities as well as job prospects in agriculture sector. He further said that about 60 per cent of the population directly depends on agriculture for their livelihood. Agriculture sector has lot of opportunities for innovative and intelligent young students, he added.

Dr Kalpanshastry, Professor, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Hyderabad, delivered her lecture on 'Importance of Agriculture in Human life and role of national development.'

The Agricultural Education Day was celebrated in commemoration of the birth anniversary of India's first President of India, Dr Babu Rajendra Prasad. About 1,000 students from different schools located in and around Rajendranagar visited the exhibition. The programme was witnessed by Member, Board of Management, Dr Manohar Rao, Registrar Dr S Sudheer Kumar, Dr Meenakumari, Associate Dean college of Agriculture Dr Seema, several faculty members and students.
