The Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) launched ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign based on the theme ‘Plastic waste Shramadaan’ starting from October 1, 2019 to October 27, 2019 after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called off self-ban on single-use plastic since October 2.

Sanath Nagar: The Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) launched 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign based on the theme 'Plastic waste Shramadaan' starting from October 1, 2019 to October 27, 2019 after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called off self-ban on single-use plastic since October 2.

The campaign will be celebrated on a large scale with participation from citizens, as part of 150th birth anniversary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi.

Sumathi Jaganathan, Senior Environmental Scientist at TSPCB, said, "This is the first year where PCB has come up with such an initiative, the Swachhata Hi Seva will focus on creating awareness to avoid plastic waste amidst citizens, government departments, business organizations and institutions."

She further added, "Through awareness activities, the general public, government departments, business organizations and institutional organizations will be motivated to 'self-ban' of single-use plastic."

The collection of plastic waste will be carried out through various awareness activities like campaigning through radio jingles in All India Radio and other private FM channels for a week. Sending 35 lakh SMS with the theme on awareness on pollution for a week.

Distribution of 1 lakh pamphlets to spread awareness on plastic waste amidst citizens. Audio campaigning in auto on plastic waste shramadaan for a week. Clean up activities at three GHMC areas along with few NGO and college students.
