Secunderabad Cantonment Board residents demand waiver of property tax
Following GHMC announcement on waiver of property tax, the residents of Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) have also started demanding the same from the SCB authorities.
Secunderabad: Following GHMC announcement on waiver of property tax, the residents of Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) have also started demanding the same from the SCB authorities.
Taking a cue from State government decision to waive off 50% property tax in the municipalities limits, the residents of SCB are now openly seeking the authorities to follow suit. In this regard, some of them started requesting the State government to take up the issue with Central authorities so even they could get benefitted with the idea. They started representing the matter to the SCB officials asking for concessions in water bills and property taxes in SCB limits. Social activists also have taken up the matter on social media platform and started requesting IT and Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao for reduction of water bills.
"SCB is the biggest among all the 62 Cantonments in India, but, still, we lack basic civic facilities, whereas everything is far better in GHMC. Under corporation limits, HMWSSB supplies drinking water every alternative day and whereas in SCB we are deprived of the privilege and we receive water once in four or five days. And also water bills and property tax is higher than GHMC. It would be better if the State government, along with SCB ward members, take a decision to reduce the water bills and also property tax on the lines of GHMC," said T Satish Gupta, a social worker and resident of SCB.
"As SCB is also part of Hyderabad then why always we lack various basic amenities. At present, Cantonment is charging Rs 450 per month; even then, the drinking water is not being supplied properly, whereas in GHMC limits, the waterworks department is charging only Rs 240 per month and water is being supplied every alternate day. Why is it not happening in the Cantonment area?" asks Surender Kumar, a resident of SCB Ward 5.
"Charges should be rationalised in SCB, as we are receiving drinking water in once in four days. Also for property tax, the benefits being provided under GHMC areas should also be extended in SCB. Being part of Hyderabad, even the residents of SCB should get all the benefits," said DLS Sreshti, resident of SCB ward 3.
