Secunderabad: Hyderabad city official language implementation committee and Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad jointly organized World Hindi Day celebrations here at CGO Towers, Bansilalpet on Wednesday. 68 representatives from various central government offices in the city attended the program.

Chairman of the committee and CSIR-NGRI director Dr VM Tiwary was invited as chief guest of the program. Prominent personalities who attended the program include Director of Indian Institute of Medical Sciences Dr PVV Prasad, INCOIS director Dr Satish Chandra Shenoy, senior Hindi officer CHI Subba Rao and others. Chief guest of the program Tiwary formally started the program by lighting the lamp.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Satish Chandra Shenoy stressed on the need for learning more languages, apart from mother tongue. Citing the examples of countries which use their own language for scientific writings, he emphasized on the need for creating scientific and technical jargon in Hindi, which is one of the official languages of India. He said that India is noted for its principle of 'unity in diversity' and explained the crucial role played by Hindi in integrating the nation with diverse cultures and languages.

Congratulating INCOIS director for conducting the program, Dr VM Tiwary said that it was a small effort to promote Hindi at international level. Speaking on the evolution of language, he said that any language develops only through its wide-spread application. He urged children to excel in other language, apart from using mother tongue as primary language of learning. He stressed on the need for use of Hindi in the field of science and technology.

Dr PVV Prasad gave a presentation on traditional medical systems of ancient India such as Sidha, Unani, Ayurveda and Homeopathi. Later, he handed over a magazine published by National Institute of Indian Sciences in Hindi and various brochures to guests. He said that the institute was using Hindi as means of publicity for proliferating the information related to medicine and healthcare to people.

A short movie made in Hindi on functioning of INCOIS was screened on the occasion. National Indian Institute of Medical Sciences organized an exhibition of books related medical sciences and ancient books.
