Saifabad: CRIDA Principal Scientist Dr Praneetha said that human survival has been endangered due to excessive use of plastic materials.
She was speaking at a seminar organised by a voluntary organization 'We 4 Climate' at Birla Science Auditorium on the topic 'Environmental changes and sustainable development' on Sunday. Farmers, government officials, youths and others participated in the seminar.
Dr Praneetha said that farmers were affected most by environmental changes. Man-made environmental changes resulted in extreme weather events such as draughts and floods. She emphasised on the public participation along with governmental initiatives to control pollution.
Modern technologies, though beneficial to mankind, have several disadvantages, she said. She advised the current generation to take up the responsibility to protect environment and create awareness on sustainable development. Later, government officials provided suggestions to farmers on sustainable agriculture.
