Lack of proper illumination on roads leading to accidents

Balanagar: Around 250 to 300 complaints are being received everyday regarding the poor condition of streetlights in Hyderabad. Commuters are facing hardships due to poor lighting in the internal lanes of many colonies. Lack of proper illumination on roads is also causing accidents in late nights.

Srinivas Bellam from Balanagar said, "If any flyover construction is happening anywhere across the city, we lack streetlights there. May be GHMC forgets to install the new ones after they remove them for some or the other purpose.

Currently, Jeedimetla road needs lights, KPHB, Shilparamam, Metal Charminar, Malaysian township and temple bus-stop need lighting so far and I request officials concerned to resolve the issue as soon as possible."

Speaking on the improper illumination, "90% of glow rate is being recorded everyday in the city as per the electricity control room. As many 30 teams in 30 divisions are working to resolve the issues every day. Even though there are complaints galore, Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) is putting in its best efforts to resolve the issue within 48 hours," said Suresh, Chief Engineer, GHMC.

If any streetlight is observed dysfunctional, we request citizens to complain about it. We will be able to resolve the issues as soon as possible. Citizens can also dial 100 and complain about streetlights in an easy approach, he added.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has replaced 4,52,360 tradition streetlights with LEDs in the last two years and the project is executed by the Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) and for other seven years EESL is responsible to handle the Streetlights across the Hyderabad.
