Kapra: As part of the special drive by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the Kapra circle has been collecting 200-250 metric tonnes of garbage daily.

Govind, a GHMC garbage picker of Nacharam, said, "I collect garbage at 6 am every day. We have been given orders by the authorities to collect garbage regularly or strict action will be taken by them. The next day when I go to collect garbage, the garbage is dumped all over in the lanes or on the sides of the roads. Locals or commuters throw garbage here and there which makes it difficult for us to collect more garbage."

Last month 20 shops were imposed fine for leaving garbage outside the store.

Dr Mythreye, GHMC Assistant Medical Officer of Health, Kapra, said, "On a daily basis, we have been collecting around 200-250 metric tonnes of garbage. There are a total of 6 tonners and 98 door to door small autos allotted for Kapra

circle."

The entire Kapra circle is divided into two divisions: Mallapur division and Saket division. The tonners and door-to-door autos are divided accordingly. The GHMC workers start the collection of garbage right from 6 am to 2 pm.

The garbage collected from the two transfer stations are taken to Jawahar Nagar dump yard. However, officials said that the locals dump garbage on roads and then later complain about the roads not being cleaned.

T Jennifer, a resident of Sainikpuri, said, "Once the day ends I keep my garbage bin outside the house and the workers do collect the garbage every morning. However, at a few roads like that of the Hi-Tension Road that connects to Yapral, during the afternoon time paper plates near the Annapurna stall are always dumped on the sides of the stall by the people who come and eat there."

Speaking on such cases where the garbage is dumped outside the shops or stalls, Mythreye said, "In such cases the owners are imposed fine. The fine is between Rs 200 to Rs 500 and for repeated offenders, the fine could go up."
