Somajiguda Division: Solve stinking issue of unattended garbage
Somajiguda Division: There is lack of hygiene in the colonies of division (Ward 97) as the garbage is left unattended. Locals complain that GHMC staff are only cleaning main roads.
Hyderabad: There is lack of hygiene in the colonies of division (Ward 97) as the garbage is left unattended. Locals complain that GHMC staff are only cleaning main roads. There is nothing to speak of any good roads as internal roads are not laid, laid roads are damaged and potholes are not fixed. Sewerage system breaks down frequently, streetlights go off twice a week, rue the residents of Somajiguda.
Highlighting the garbage dump as the major issue in the internal lanes of the Somajiguda, K Dinesh, owner of a salon in the area, says,
"Garbage dumping in the corners of our streets in the colony is slowing becoming a daily routine. Regular collection of garbage from the colonies by the GHMC workers would be appreciated and it will solve the issue to an extent, but none of them is concerned about piling up of garbage in the streets."
Another resident P Rajashekar from the colony, explaining the seriousness of issue, says, "We always wait for garbage collectors but hardly they come. A few of the residents discard waste at dump yard but most are dumping them at the corner of streets, which is causing stink and breeding of mosquitoes." Last week, a bag containing offal of goat was found in the middle of the road and it was left unattended for the two long days. We kindly request GHMC officials to attend to the garbage left over here there in the corners of the colonies, he added.
"There is a need to discuss decentralisation of waste management in the area along with the establishment of proper sewerage and fine roads. We are unable to breathe because of the toxic gases released by the ever-growing mountain of garbage. It is overflowing to the colonies now," said Sai Yadhav, a financial analyst.
Who are in fray?
Madhavi Nasam from TDP, Vanam Sangeetha from TRS, G Vijaya Durga from BJP are in the fray for Somajiguda from the Backward Class reservations. Dr Kuna Snehalatha is competing with them independently.
