Patancheru: A stray dog, believed to be a rabid, has bitten some 49 people in Patancheru town. The dog attacked several people who sat in front of their homes or cleaning their premises in the early hours of Monday in Ambedkar Colony, Venkateshwar Colony, JP Colony and Chaitanya Nagar Colony.

An elderly woman who came to the town to visit her relatives was bitten by the dog. Several old people who sat in front of their homes in the morning were also attacked by the dog. The news that a rabid dog has hurt 49 people in a single day in the town has created havoc and people stayed indoors fearing dog attack.

On receiving the information about the rabid dog, GHMC staff visited every lane in the town and caught stray dogs. GHMC workers caught 16 dogs in the morning and another 10 more dogs in the evening. Ultimately, the GHMC workers have managed to hunt down the rabid dog.

GHMC official Raj Kumar said that the other stray dogs that were caught were sent to Madhapur for sterilization. The injured were sent to the local government hospital for treatment. Dr Gnaneshwari, a doctor on duty at government hospital, said all the 49 people who were bitten were being treated at the hospital.
