RK Puram: The recent rains have taken a heavy toll on the roads. In the eastern part of the city, the Ramakrishnapuram Bridge has been severely affected. Scores of potholes on the bridge have resulted in the slowing down of traffic and as a result, it takes anywhere between 15 to 25 minutes to cross the bridge.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, Manmohan, a commuter said, "Hundreds of school children studying in Army Public School and Kendriya Vidyalaya beyond the Ramakrishnapuram Bridge are getting late to school due to the traffic jam."

People living in Neredmet, Safilguda, Anand Bagh, Sainikpuri, Dr A S Rao Nagar and beyond use the bridge to go towards Paradise, Marredpally and beyond. A few lakhs of people use the bridge.

Madhavan, a retired railway employee and resident of Vivekanandapuram, says, "The construction is of very poor quality and it is too narrow. The covering of potholes was not done properly. Many vehicles also skid."

At the mouth of the bridge towards Army Public School is a bus stop that is also a cause for traffic jams say locals. Arvind V K, a medical transcriptionist, says, "The bus stop needs to be moved further down the road. The Local Military Authority has a lot of land that is not used."

Lorries and GHMC vehicles carrying garbage to the Jawahar Nagar dump yard are affecting the movement of vehicles.
