Chikkadpally: The volunteers of Pro Namo Seva Sangham planted saplings at Ashok Nagar and Chikkadpally Parks here on Sunday. The volunteers have been planting saplings in various colony parks for the last few weeks.
Vikas Chopra who formed the group before the general elections says, "Our aim is to plant as many trees as possible to mitigate effects of climate change and make Hyderabad green. We plant fruit bearing trees such as pomegranate, guava, papaya, badam and kala jamun in parks."
There are close to 1000 members of which 300 are active members working at the ground level. Pramod Jyothi, 27, a businessman from Chikkadpally, said, "It is a purely self-funded initiative. The money is collected from members and there is no force. Each one contributes as per his or her wish which is used for logistics, procurement of saplings and organizing events."
Till date, tree plantation was conducted in Nature Cure Hospital at Balkampet, Vanasthalipuram, Chikkadpally and Ashok Nagar. Narender Bilakanti, a businessman from Srinagar Colony says, "The GHMC nurseries allot 5-7 saplings to an individual after producing Aadhaar card.
It would be better if the authorities handover more saplings for a noble cause." The members of Pro Namo Seva Sangham include students, ITeS employees, doctors, lawyers and businessmen.
