TS Govt school gets new spacious building

Santosh Nagar: The students who were crammed in a chock-a-block classrooms till last year have got a new lease of hope this academic year after the entire boysschool at Madannapetwas shifted to a more spacious and modern building. It was earlier housed in asbestos-roofed 50-year old structure.

The condition of the school was highlighted by The Hans India in a report 'Govt boys school cries for attention' on July 7, 2018. It was reported that the which ran in a rented structure was acutely lacking in infrastructure and facing several other problems.

Walls were peelingoff and students faced problems during rainy season as water entered classrooms. Besides this, the school did not have clean washrooms, no light or ceiling fans. With no cleanliness being maintained, the asbestos roofing was covered with dried up leaves and the biggest problem remains lack of security arrangements.

Minister Mahmood Ali sanctions MLC funds

After learning about the problems being faced by the boys, constituency development fund for MLCs was utilised by Home Minister, Mohammed Mahmood Ali,to build a new structure.

The school building was completed a few days back on a government land of 3,600 sqyds. It was inaugurated by the Minister himself along with MLA (Yakutpura) Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri in the presence of Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin and other leaders.

Serving the students coming from underprivileged backgrounds from localities of Santosh Nagar and Kurmaguda divisions, this school has been running for more than five decades at Madannapet Mandi under a temporary roofing of asbestos.

This was started for boys and later it turned out be a school of co-education. According to faculty, the government school owing to lack of space for accommodating about 400 students of Urdu and English media, was running in two shifts.

Later, the issue was taken up by the Mahmood Ali who decided to resolve the matter and offered funds at his disposal. The dream of new building for the school finally materialised and school from Madannapet was shifted to Banu Nagar in Santosh Nagar under Yakutpura constituency, within 1 km distance.

Speaking about the school, Mahmood Ali said that the government was aiming to extend all the provisions of residential schools to other government schools. "For the betterment of TS, Chief Minister instructed all the public representatives to spend their funds for improving amenities at hospital and schools."

Hence,the Minister decided to focus on this school and out of Rs 5 crore funds, Rs 2.5 crore was spent on construction of groundfloor in 1,400 sqyd land and the remaining money would be be spent on other amenities, which includes playground. For the construction of another floor. remaining amount will be released shortly from funds. In near future, there would also be a junior college in same building, said Mahmood Ali.

Staff expresses gratitude

Expressing gratitude to Home Minister for the newly constructed school building, the staff said that the school was running in both English and Urdu medium with primary and higher sectionsin just 3classrooms.

"It was congested and during rainy season the school remained closed for days, owing to water leakage through walls and ceiling which affected smooth functioning of the school, as water logging was everywhere. In this new building there won't be any problem as in the past and students can remain there and study the whole day," said one of the staff members.
