Dammaiguda: The pathetic condition of roads in some colonies in Dammaiguda municipality is creating a lot of problems to the locals. Allegedly, officials are concentrating on national highways, but neglecting the internal roads. Though funds have been sanctioned for repair, maintenance and new roads, but the internal roads remain in same pathetic conditions.
There is no change in the situation even after the panchayat turning into a municipality. Vikas Nagar colony, Srinivas Nagar colony, Silent Colony, Vedadri Nagar and some areas in the division are lacking in CC roads. Some of the roads are filled with potholes causing severe inconvenience for motorists and pedestrians.
Officials are behaving softly with the contractors regarding the construction of BT and CC roads. Quality control officers are not conducting regular visits which are leading to the fast damage of roads. The present condition of roads explains the poor performance of the officials, thus people slam the apathy of higher-ups.
Local residents in the area are facing many problems with mud roads due to overflow of water and filling potholes. The other problem was digging roads for underground drainages and not filling back. Though, officials were carrying out repair works, but the works were left midway without giving 100 per cent finishing. Some of the people were digging roads for borewell pipelines, nala connection, cable wire and other reasons without taking any permission from the respective officials. Locals are demanding officials and people representatives to clear the problem at the earliest.
Recently, water works officials dug a hole for a manhole and left it incomplete. As it is beside the road, it is posing threat to commuters. There is no response from the municipality officials even after lodging several complaints.
When Commissioner Rajalingam was asked about the issue, shifting blame on other departments, he responded "It was dug by water works officials and we are not responsible for it." Locals were shocked after hearing the answer from the officials.
