Hyderabad: "Every time you do a good deed you shine the light a little farther into the dark. And the thing is when you're gone that light is going to keep shining on, pushing the shadows back." Living up to this truth is Md Zabi Khan, the youngest animal right activist from Hyderabad and founder of the NGO, 'A Place to Bark.'

Zabi Khan was recognized for his service as an animal rights activist and the volunteerism that he has been doing for the welfare of animals for the past 9 years. He was awarded as one of the best volunteer in India by the United Nations and the Minister of Youth affairs and sports, Kiren Rijiju, on December 5 on the occasion of International Volunteers Day.

Through his NGO, Zabi has rehabilitated more than 5,000 animals, 180 abandoned animals and 89 abused animals. As many as 240 re-homing cases of animals were registered, and 458 cats and dogs were adopted.

'A Place to Bark' was started by Zabi in 2016 for the welfare of animals in Hyderabad. He and like-minded samaritans deal with abandoned and abused animals that had a rough start in their lives. They have been rehabilitating and finding permanent, caring homes for the sheltered animals.

Each of the rescued animals has a different need, some come to us with paralysed legs, some with tumors, some with skin allergies, cancer, fractures, burns, road accident cases, and the list goes on. Being a student at times it gets really hard for Zabi to manage the recourses and funding. But today his love for animals and volunteering to help the needy animals had made him recognized as one of the youngest and best animal rights activist.
