Bahadurpura: On the occasion of 73rd Independence Day celebrations and as part of green initiative at the zoo, the initiative of zero emission was taken forward further with the launch of five battery-operated 2-wheelers.
N Kshitija, Curator, Nehru Zoological Park, flagged off the new vehicles and handed them over to Assistant Curators, engineering section and the veterinary section to make their mobility on the zoo premises in an environment-friendly manner. Earlier in 2011, Nehru Zoo became the first to introduce battery-operated vehicles for visitors and six years later, 40 new bi-cycles were also procured and distributed to the staff to look after their daily work in the zoo.
During the Independence Day celebrations, the Curator hoisted the national flag and presented appreciation certificates and cash rewards to the staff who rendered best services during the year. Entire staff comprising veterinary wing, animal section, garden section, watch and ward section, stores and supply, workshop team, battery operated drivers, booking clerks and administrative staff were present.
Speaking on the occasion, the Curator informed that the Nehru Zoological Park is known for its expansive greenery and is listed amongst the best zoos in the world, which was made possible by the untiring efforts of the zoo officers and staff. She exhorted all the staff to work with full vigour and dedication and achieve all the goals that they set their sights upon.
