Vijayawada: Civil supplies minister Kodali Sri Venkateswara Rao (Nani) said 2.10 lakh new names were added in the list of white ration card holders in the last few months in the state. He said Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy issued orders to sanction ration card within 48 hours of application to the eligible families. Kodali Nani participated in the market yard panel oath taking ceremony in Gudivada on Wednesday night. Speaking on the occasion, he said the TDP launched a false propaganda alleging that the state government had scrapped 10 lakh ration cards in the state. Responding to the allegations, the minister said the total number of ration cards in the state was 1,44,26,595 with 4.20 crore names. He is said the TDP was levelling false allegations against the state government on scrapping of ration cards.

Kodali Nani said the state government had conducted survey and collected the names of eligible people under Navasakam programme. He said 9,260 vehicles were purchased by the civil supplies department for the door delivery of ration to the beneficiaries from January 1. He felt the door delivery mechanism would check irregularities like diverting of rice meant for the Public Distribution System. (PDS) because the officials get information as soon as the swipe card is used by the beneficiaries and the staff.
