Vijayawada: Bhartiya Devalaya Parirakshana Vedika (BDPV) condemned the vandalism of Sri Ram idol at Ramateertham and vandalism of Hindu gods and goddesses on Sunday.

Addressing the media, BDPV vice-chairman Subrahmanyam described the vandalism as perverse action of anti-social elements. He suspected that there must be strong forces that were backing these elements as the incidents were occurring state-wide.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the temporary measures taken by the government, he demanded that the government should take stringent action against these anti-social elements and punish them severely so that these types of incidents should not take place in future.

Phaniduth Chanakya, High Court advocate, said that the silence of the government on these incidents is not good for a harmonious society. "A police inspector investigating into the issue occurred in his jurisdiction is not sufficient to probe into these issues as they are taking place state-wide." He demanded the government to appoint a special investigation team (SIT) giving it state-wide jurisdiction, which will be capable to thoroughly probe into these incidents and produce them before the court of law.

Tumuluri Sri Chaitanya said that the government was busy in appeasing the minorities and anti-social elements were busy in vandalising the idols of Hindu gods and goddesses. "The government is concerned about only the vote bank of Hindus but not their sentiments." He opined that this is high time the government proved its sincerity towards the sentiments of Hindus. Today all parties were visiting the incident spot only to protect vote bank but not with true support.
