Vijayawada: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman expressed concern over the dumping of garbage before the bank branches in Andhra Pradesh and even enquired with state finance minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy, who assured her that all steps would be taken to ensure safety for all.

District collector A Md Imtiaz told The Hans India that following the instructions of the finance minister, the secretary of the municipal administration ordered an enquiry into the incident.

The collector said that he had already talked with the municipal staff concerned and asked them to remove the garbage immediately.

It may be recalled that garbage was dumped at the entrances of various banks in at least two towns of Vuyyuru and Machilipatnam and in Vijayawada by the municipal staff in protest against the alleged indifference of the bank employees in sanctioning loans to the beneficiaries under Jagananna Cheyutha and other schemes of the YSRCP government's Navaratnalu.

The commissioner of nagara panchayati of Vuyyuru was quoated as saying that he himself asked his staff to dump the garbage before the bank branches of Union Bank of India, State Bank of India and Andhra Bank since the bank staff was not sanctioning the loans to the beneficiaries of the government schemes.

However, the bank employees stated that they are bound by the rules. Uday Kumar, general secretary of Andhra Bank Award Employees Union, said that the state administration is in war against the bank employees.

He said that the municipal staff dumped garbage before the three branches of Andhra Bank (now Union Bank of India), including the head office in One Town in the city.
