A set of 10 questions to handle liquor business

Visakhapatnam: The state government which has taken over liquor business has come with a novel idea of appointing sales persons. The government wanted to first test the knowledge pertaining to liquor sales and then appoint them.
To identify such candidates, it held an examination on Sunday. This raised curiosity among the people as to what questions the the candidates had to answer. According to sources about 1500 candidates had appeared for the post of supervisor and salesmen posts for 320 liquor shops in Visakhapatnam district and exhibited their skills. It is learnt that they were asked to crack a set of 10 questions which were drafted by Joint Collector L Siva Sankar.
There were questions related to quantification of liquor in terms of volume, some pertaining to general knowledge, aptitude and reasoning as well. The set of ten questions carried 30 marks. "The idea is to recruit right candidates for the post as they are expected to possess minimum knowledge to handle the store." He further added that the recruitment process was aimed at ensuring enhanced transparency in the system.
At the Zilla Parishad meeting hall on Sunday, certificate verification and testing for the process of recruiting eligible people as supervisors and salesmen in proposed liquor shops were done in the presence of officials. Those who have not attended the test on Sunday will be given a second chance to attend on Monday, commencing at 9 a.m. at Zilla Parishad meeting hall. In addition, test will also be conducted for salesmen in urban area.
In Visakhapatnam district, 320 supervisors and 855 salesmen will be recruited for the proposed 320 retail liquor outlets (215 in urban and 105 in rural). Apart from 320 supervisors, candidates will be appointed for 645 salesmen in GVMC limits and 210 in rural area.
Candidates who assembled at ZP hall for the test said that though it hardly took 10 to 15 minutes to wrap up the test, it required a bit of preparation in terms of brushing up their general knowledge and reasoning skills to clear the paper. Did they also test the knowledge of these candidates in regard to what is half or quarter in liquor terminology is something the social media was left wondering.
