Visakhapatnam: Six students of Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Residential School (APSWR) – Centre of Excellence, Kommadi, have come up with two projects that got shortlisted in the NITI Aayog's Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) Marathon – 2019.

While Kanaparthi Suhitha, M Vinuthna Jignasha from Class X and N Yasaswini from Class IX designed a prototype of 'Safaai Mitra', B Meenakshi and B Swadeepa from Class X along with M Swathi from Class IX developed 'Nari Suraksha'.

Safaai Mitra primarily focuses on keeping the toilets clean every time the flush knob is pushed down. After a thorough research, the trio developed the prototype to resolve the toilet woes experienced in schools and shopping malls.

"In most schools, we often get to visit a badly maintained toilet. Even the ayahs find it tough to clean the dirty washrooms. The situation is not any better in shopping malls. Safaai Mitra not only aims to keep the toilets clean but also helps maintain the dignity of those cleaning the toilet," explains Suhitha.

The automatic cleaning system is operated based on the infrared sensor and microcontroller.

Nari Suraksha: As far as 'Nari Suraksha' is concerned, alerts will be sent when a predator enters the hostel or an animal invades human spaces or when there is a short circuit. "With the help of an interface, alerts will be sent to the departments concerned apart from sounding an alarm on the campus," elaborates Swathi.

Nari Surakhsa has three panic buttons: Red, blue and green. "It is an IoT-based project and is useful for the safety of students in hostels and colleges," says T Rambabu, Physical Science teacher and ATL in-charge of the school.

At present, prototypes of both the projects were readied with the support of IBM and Adobe. Next, they will be developed into a real-time project. Earlier, K Lathika Sai Priya Varshini from the school had an opportunity to attend a residential workshop on 'Innovation programme on deep technologies' held in Sochi, Russia.

Now, the team hopes that a couple of them will get a chance to visit Japan or Russia for an internship training once their projects get further sieved in the marathon.
