Warangal: Instead of introducing controversial legislations such as Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the BJP-led Central government should focus on issues faced by the people, Communist Party of India (CPI) State Secretariat member Thakkallapally Srinivas Rao said. Speaking at the Warangal Urban District council meeting here on Tuesday, he termed the CAA as a tool to create rift among the people on communal lines.

"Core sectors of the economy have witnessed a steep decline after the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir," he said. As if this was not enough, Narendra Modi government has fast tracked the privatisation of PSUs since it retained power second time, Rao said, referring to the Centre's move to allow foreign direct investment (FDI) in strategic sectors like telecom, railways, civil aviation, petroleum, power etc. He said that the impact of privatisation of PSUs is to have adverse effects on the livelihood opportunities of the distressed sections.

"Since the BJP came to power in 2014, it presented budget six times. But it failed to provide adequate funds for the implementation of provisions promised in the AP Reorganisation Act. The BJP government had always rolled out union budget in such a way that benefits the corporate houses. The Centre seldom focused on the welfare of the unorganised sector in the country. Holding the Centre responsible for the economic slowdown, he blamed the Modi government for its anti-people policies.

CPI Warangal Urban district secretary Mekala Ravi, Gannarapu Ramesh, K Bikshapathi, P Prasad, Sheikh Bashumiya, M Linga Reddy, B Ravinder, D Laxman, G Rohith, G Shankarnarayana, Venkatramana, M Bikshapathi, Sudarshan, Chary, D Ravi, Raji Reddy, Kapoor and Sampath were among others present.
