Temple priest attempts rape on a woman in Amaravati

Vijayawada: In an incident, a priest has allegedly attempted rape on a woman devotee who visited the temple. This incident happened at a temple in Vykuntapuram village at Amaravathi mandal of Guntur district.

According to the sources, a couple from Vijayawada came to the temple along with their relatives on Tuesday. On the occasion, the couple has performed special puja as they did not have any children.

Taking advantage of this, the priest told the woman to meet him alone inside the temple. Believing him, she went inside, where he misbehaved with her. The woman who got frightened with the priest's behavior, ran out screaming and informed the matter with the family members. By the time, they came into the temple, the priest flew away from the spot.

With this, the devotees took the issue to the village elders and returned to their place. Over the incident, the elders informed the endowment department officials, where an internal investigation is carried out.
