Bill to evict MPs living illegally in govt houses passed
Seeking to swiftly evict illegal occupants from government accommodation, the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday passed the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Amendment Bill, 2019.
New Delhi: Seeking to swiftly evict illegal occupants from government accommodation, the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday passed the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Amendment Bill, 2019.
The bill which amends the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1971, was moved by Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
It has already been passed by the Lok Sabha. The existing law has lengthy eviction process involving a show-cause notice and appeal provisions. As a result, it takes years at times to evict the unauthorised occupant.
Parliament also passed the Consumer Protection Bill 2019 that seeks to establish authorities for timely and effective administration and settlment of consumer disputes.
The Bill, already passed by the Lok Sabha, was approved in the Upper House by voice vote.
It seeks to strengthen rights of consumers and provides a mechanism for redressal of complaints regarding defects in goods and deficiency in services.
Replying to a debate on the Bill, Consumers Affairs Minister Ramvilas Paswan said that the suggestions given by the members would be included in the rules framed by the Ministry under this legislation.
