Mumbai: The ruling BJP conceded that a "50:50" formula of rotational chief ministership in Maharashtra had been discussed with the Shiv Sena earlier this year, hours after its CM Devendra Fadnavis said that no such formula had been considered.

Fadnavis, 49, said he would be Chief Minister of Maharashtra for a full term and no plan to split the five-year term was agreed upon with the Sena, which is demanding an equal share of power after State polls.

It was BJP president Amit Shah, he said, who had indicated to him that no such formula had been discussed.

Hours later, as the BJP acknowledged the formula, Fadnavis said if there had been such a discussion between Amit Shah and Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray, he had not been present.

The Sena's Sanjay Raut delivered an instant retort. "If Devendra Fadnavis thinks he has the support of145 MLAs (majority mark in the 288-member assembly), he can go ahead and form the government," he challenged. "I do not know what the Chief Minister has said.

If he is saying that the '50-50 formula' was never discussed, then I think we need to change the definition of the truth," Raut told news agency ANI. Sena leader also delivered a stinging attack with a reference to Haryana.

When asked about the delay despite its pre-poll alliance with the BJP, told news agency ANI: "There is no Dushyant (Chautala) here whose father is in jail.

Here it's us who do politics of 'dharma and satya' (ethics and truth) Sharad (Pawar) who created an environment against BJP and the Congress who will never go with BJP."

He added: "If someone wants to keep us away from power, then it is an honour for us. A decision will be taken soon. We are currently observing that to what lows people can resort to.

As decided before the Lok Sabha elections, our only demand is that things should work according to what has been decided earlier." The Opposition has accused the BJP of using Dushyant Chautala's father Ajay Chautala in its negotiations.

Ajay Chautala is serving time in jail for corruption; a day after the BJP announced its tie-up with Dushyant Chautala, his father was granted furlough from prison.
