Lucknow, Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former state president, Laxmikant Bajpai, has informed the Uttar Pradesh Health Minister Jai Pratap Singh about the misuse of the Prime Minister's Ayushman Yojana which guarantees free health care to the poor.

Bajpai has told the Minister, who was in Meerut on Wednesday, that people, who are not entitled to benefits under the Ayushman Yojana, were beneficiaries of the scheme.

"There are people who own Fortuner vehicles and are taking benefits under this scheme. There are several anomalies that need to be probed and action must be taken against officials who are allowing this because it means that those who should receive benefits are being denied the same," said Laxmikant Bajpai after meeting the Minister.

The Minister has assured that he will get the list of beneficiaries checked and action would be taken against the guilty.

Later, the Minister also told reporters that the matter would be thoroughly investigated and the names of genuine beneficiaries would be included in the list.

He said that efforts were also on to upgrade the primary health centres (PHC) and community health centres (CHC) in the state.
