Farmers charge at his convoy with sticks

New Delhi: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar faced the anger of farmers protesting the Centre's three new contentious farm laws. As he was travelling to Ambala, the CM's convoy was met with a flurry of protesters.

Protesters reportedly charged at the vehicles in Manohar Lal's convoy with wooden sticks, except for the ambulance in his cavalcade. The Haryana Chief Minister escaped unhurt. The BJP-led Haryana government has been saying that only a few farmers are against agricultural laws. Manohar Lal was heading to Ambala to address a public rally in support of Dr Vandana Sharma, who is contesting a municipal corporation election.

The Haryana administration had made elaborate security arrangements but somehow, the protesters caught wind of the venue and started congregating in Ambala early since early Tuesday morning. In a show of anger aimed at the Haryana government, the protesters also decided to show black flags to CM Manohar Lal's convoy.

The administration even tried to divert the Chief Minister's convoy using an alternate route, but all such efforts went in vain. Police officials deployed along the route faced a tough time managing the farmers who got angered when the turban of one of the protesters was tossed in the air during a scuffle. It is also worth mentioning that the farmers had declared their decision to protest against BJP and JJP leaders in Haryana by showing them black flags.
