Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Anand Sharma scoffed at Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's claim of ending Inspector Raj as false and a joke. "IT raids have multiplied," he asserted in a tweet. Tax terrorism, Sharma alleged, had "created panic and fear among business leaders."

Anand Sharma also said that the Finance Minister failed to explain budgetary maths.

Opposition leader in Parliament in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury told ANI, "Economy is in tatters, all that Nirmalaji can do is cosmetic surgery because all that BJP govt has been talking about is Pakistan Imran Khan Musalmaan.".

CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury expressed the view that there was nothing substantial to "alleviate people's misery."

Delhi chief minister and AamAadmi Party chief, Arvind Kejriwal hoped for higher allocations to Delhi. Budget 2020 would be a test of BJP's concern for Delhi he said.

Congress spokesman, Sanjay Jha, took a dig at Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, saying her Budget speech had been prepared by Alexa.
