Ahmedabad is the epicentre of Gujarat's coronavirus crisis contributing about 75% of the total viral load of the state. Gujarat has so far reported 24,055 confirmed coronavirus cases with a death count of 1,505 fatalities.

Ahmedabad has so far recorded close to 17,000 cases of COVID-19 positive patients with 327 being reported on Monday. It now appears that 300 cases a day is the new normal in the biggest and busiest city of the state.

Gujarat's mortality rate of 6.2% is the highest in the country, as pointed out by Rahul Gandhi in his tweet on Tuesday, citing a news report. The city's healthcare infrastructure has been exposed as never before and several reports of patients struggling to get a hospital bed in Ahmedabad have appeared in the media.

The Ahmedabad High Court last month referred to the Civil Hospital in the city as a dungeon against the backdrop of COVID-19 treatment in Ahmedabad's major government facility.

Gujarat has conducted close to 3 lakh Coronavirus tests so far.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold a video interaction with Gujarat chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Wednesday along with chief ministers of other states. Gujarat is the home state of PM Modi and union home minister Amit Shah. Shah also represents the Gandhinagar constituency.

Rahul Gandhi in his tweet on Tuesday took a dig at PM Modi's home state and said that the highest fatality rate in the country "exposed the Gujarat model." The Wayanad MP cited the comparative mortality rates of various states including Gujarat from a news report.
