Mumbai continues to be a major source of worry as far as the coronavirus count in the country goes with the city contributing more than a fifth of the national COVID-19 case-load. 1,438 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Mumbai on Thursday alone with the total number of cases in the city now climbing to 35,273. Mumbai reported 38 deaths on Thursday due to Coronavirus taking the death count in the Maximum City to 1,135.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data cited in the media states that 99% of ICU beds in Mumbai were occupied. Similarly, 72% of ventilators were taken, while hospitals treating severe cases of coronavirus were occupied to the extent of 96%.

In the Centre's interaction with states, Maharashtra is reported to have apprised Union government authorities of steps taken by state and the BMC in the city of Mumbai. The BMC is said to have pointed out that it has been maintaining a live dashboard to reveal to patients the bed availability status in Mumbai.

The BMC also brought to the notice of the Centre the fact that it had controlled the spread of coronavirus in the slums of Dharavi and Worli through aggressive containment strategies. Similarly, it also revealed how it had undertaken targeted door-to-door campaigning in containment zones counselling senior citizens and other high-risk categories on the need to stay safe to prevent the spread of Coronavirus in the city.
