The coronavirus pandemic sweeping through the country shows no signs of receding with the highest single day spike of 9,996 COVID-19 cases being recorded over the last 24 hours.

The coronavirus pandemic sweeping through the country shows no signs of receding with the highest single day spike of 9,996 COVID-19 cases being recorded over the last 24 hours. The countrywide count has now climbed to 2,86,579 as per the latest update put out on Thursday morning by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. There have been 8,102 deaths across the country. The country once again recorded nearly 10,000 cases over the last 24 hours. India now has 1,37,448 active cases across the states, while 1,41,028 patients have been cured or discharged.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat and Rajasthan are among the states which contribute the most to the overall caseload in the country.

Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-hit state in the country with the state's COVID-19 tally now inching towards the 1 lakh mark. The state's COVID-19 count stands currently at 94,041. Maharashtra has reported a death count of 3,438. Mumbai has been the epicentre of the coronavirus crisis in Maharashtra and has contributed more than 70% of the state's cases.

Tamil Nadu is among the worst hit states with overall COVID-19 tally in the state now jumping to 36,841. Tamil Nadu has recorded 326 fatalities.

Delhi has been in the news over the past few days over the spread of COVID-19 with the total count of confirmed coronavirus patients in the national capital climbing to 32,810. The Delhi death count is 16 shy of the 1,000 mark and stands at 984.

Gujarat has been severely hit by the coronavirus pandemic and the state's COVID-19 tally has now reached 21,521 with the death count mounting to 1,347.

COVID-19 numbers in Uttar Pradesh have started to climb once again with the state's tally now reaching 11,610 confirmed coronavirus cases and 321 deaths.

Rajasthan has reported 11,600 confirmed coronavirus patients so far with 259 deaths.

Madhya Pradesh has reported 10,049 confirmed COVID-19 cases with the total death count in the state now reaching 427.

West Bengal has so far reported 9,328 cases of coronavirus with 432 deaths.

Karnataka has reported 6,041 cases of COVID-19 with 69 deaths.

Bihar has seen a sharp spike in the number of COVID-19 cases with the tally mounting to 5710 and 33 deaths.
