Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that the crime rate in the state has dropped in the last few years under the BJP rule.

Taking to his 'X' handle, Sarma shared a data containing details of various crimes that occurred in Assam in the last five years.

In 2019, at least 1,235 murder cases and 1,952 incidents of rape were reported in Assam. Additionally, 198 cases of dacoity were also reported in various police stations across the state.

In 2022, the murder cases dropped to 1,084, while cases of rape also showed a decline.

According to data shared by Sarma, 1,113 rape incidents were reported in Assam in 2022. The cases of dacoity also dropped to 85 in 2022.

The Chief Minister also shared the crime rate data upto August this year. As per the data he posted, 686 cases of murder and 656 rape incidents were reported in 2023. Sarma claimed that major crimes have seen a dip due to proactive measures taken by the state government.

He wrote: "Our commitment to make Assam a crime-free state is moving positively in the right direction."
