NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, Amulya Patnaik, the Delhi Police Commissioner while addressing hundreds of personnel of the police force who had staged an unprecedented protest outside the Delhi Police headquarters at ITO was booed for asking to maintain peace. The protest was held against attacks on police personnel by lawyers in court complexes in Delhi.

Amulya Patnaik said, "I appeal to all to maintain peace. It's a trying time for us. We need to fulfil the responsibility of maintaining and ensuring law and order. It is expected from us that we the protectors of law will continue to assure law and order in the capital. In the last few days, there have been certain incidents in the capital which we handled very well. The situation is improving after that."

Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik also urged that "We have to behave like disciplined force. The government and people expect us to uphold the law, it is our big responsibility."

After failing constantly in attempts to calm them down, the protesting cops continued with sloganeering and jeered the police commissioner at least twice during his speech.

Slogans were raised praising the Puducherry Lt Governor of Kiran Bedi, for her contribution when she served as an IPS officer in Delhi.

The cops repeatedly raised the slogan 'Police commissioner Kaisa ho, Kiran Bedi jaisa ho (What should the police commissioner be like? He should be like Kiran Bedi)."

A report to the Union Home Ministry has been submitted by the Delhi Police has submitted regarding the violence that broke out between lawyers and cops at the Tis Hazari Court Complex on Saturday. Around 20 security personnel and several advocates were injured in the clashes.

As per sources, the Home Ministry has said that a factual report in which the Delhi Police has given details of the circumstances which lead to the incident. "It does not cover what happened after Saturday, including an incident on Monday in which a video shows a group of lawyers purportedly assaulting a policeman outside the Saket court," an official said.
