MUMBAI: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis started vacating the official CM residence in South Mumbai on Thursday. A police official posted at the CM's residence named 'Varsha' , said that packers and movers had come in to help the ex CM's family vacate from their residence from the upmarket area of Malabar Hills in South Mumbai. As per sources, Fadnavis is currently house-hunting, after having to vacate the CM's official residence.

BJP's Devendra Fadnavis had resigned from the CM's post on Tuesday afternoon, soon after NCP's Ajit Pawar resigned as the Deputy CM. Fadnavis, originally from Nagpur, plans to continue living in the metropolis of Mumbai and is looking out for residences in the city. Devendra Fadnavis's wife Amrita is a senior executive at Axis Bank. The couple have a daughter who is currently studying in the city. The family shifted to Mumbai when Fadnavis became the Chief Minister of Maharashtra in October 2014.

Fadnavis is likely to become the leader of opposition in the new assembly, being the leader of the BJP's legislature party. He was elected to power from the Nagpur South West seat.

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray took oath as the new chief minister of Maharashtra on Thursday. Thackeray's family currently resides in suburban Bandra in their familial home 'Matoshree'.

Following dramatic episodes of Fadnavis swearing-in as CM early in the morning, on November 23 the Shiv Sena went to the Supreme Court to challenge the move and won.
